Box Score 2 Steubenville, OH-The Lady Barons faced off against Bethany College at home, dropping both games. The nonconference Bison shutout the Lady Barons 14-0 in the first game, the Barons were able to reign in their opponent to half the runs of the first game falling 7-1 in the second contest.
"I told the girls after the game, that the second game they played a lot better. It's easier to play better when our pitchers are on, the defense comes together and Molly Clarahan did a nice job in the second game." Coach Walker chipped in after the games.
The first batter of the day connected with a ball sending it over the fence giving Bethany a quick lead. The Bison proceeded to add multiple runs in every inning, including a four-run third, on nine hits, two of which were triples.
The second game afforded a better outcome for the Lady Barons as they were able to get on the board with a run and cut Bethany's scoring by half from the first game. Anna King led off the inning by getting on first when the second baseman took her foot off the bag from the fielded bunt. King then was able to steal second. Clarahan advanced the runner with ground out to shortstop. Lindsay Finch brought the run around with a sacrifice fly to right field. Cecilia Lademan was able to get on base by an error and Iliana Gonzales singled up the middle. However the Barons were unable to capitalize on their base runners, and ended the inning with a strikeout.
"We can't strikeout. We need to protect the plate on two strikes and swing the bat if it's close," was Coach Walker's answer to what to fix for next game.
The Lady Barons next travel to Penn St.-Behrend this Saturday, April 16, for an AMCC double header starting at 1:30pm.
