NEW WILMINGTON, Pennsylvania- The sprinters led the way for the Franciscan University track & field teams at the Westminster Invitational.
"It was a great day for the sprinters today," said head coach Chris Ledyard. "Nearly everyone PR'd (personal record)."'
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Tim Quayle, Carlo Fabian, James Mello and Tim Wiese ran a strong race finishing with a time of 3:40.75, setting the school record for the Barons. Quayle also performed very well in the 400 meter run breaking 53 seconds.
"This was the first time we've had anyone do that this season," said Ledyard regarding Quayle's performance.
The men also saw strong performances from Nick Long and Hunter McDonnell. Long ran an excellent race in the 10,000 meter setting a new personal record by seven seconds. McDonnell set the school record in the high jump maxing out at 1.79 meters.
Antonio Sierra and Conner Smith also set personal records; both by two seconds. Sierra finished with a time of 4:22.94 in the 1500-meter and Smith finished with a time of 2:27.60 in the 800 meter.
On the women's side it was a rather uneventful day for the Lady Barons, for they only three runners competing.
"Through the week the women have been struggling with several injuries," said Ledyard. "Our thrower Danielle Busche was injured also."
Of the few women competing, Therese Thompson set a personal record in the 1500 meter breaking her previous record by 11 seconds.
The Barons next travel to Penn State Behrend for a meet on April 23 followed by the CSAC Championships on May 7-8.
