Box Score HAMBURG, N.Y. - Franciscan women's lacrosse had its highest offensive production of the season in an 16-8 win over Hilbert, the team's seventh consecutive win of the season.
Not having played in a week, the Lady Barons got off to a slow start as the Hawks took a lead almost immediately, scoring less than two minutes into a game. Ten minutes later, Hilbert held a 3-0 lead and Franciscan needed to make some adjustments.
Freshman attack Treise McCarthy was the first Lady Baron to find the back of the net, scoring with 16:10 remaining in the half to spark a 16-5 run that lasted the rest of the game.
"Not having a game for a week, we started off a little slow today," head coach Maura Conant said. "After getting down 3-0, we made some adjustments on our offensive transition that helped us maintain possession."
Maintaining possession allowed Franciscan to take more shots and therefore score more goals, leading to the highest score this season.
Freshmen Carly McDonald and Liz Dawyot led the Lady Barons with four goals scored each while Tracy McClelland, Elizabeth McEntee and Mary Krolicki each scored two goals. Krolicki also had a strong performance at the midfield, picking up six ground balls and winning five draw controls.
Freshman goalie Savannah Jane Duncan made 11 saves off 19 shots faced as she continues her strong freshman season in the cage.
Franciscan also took advantage of its free-position shots against the Hawks, sinking 4-of-6, including making both in the second half. Meanwhile, Hilbert led in most statistical categories: saves (12-11), ground balls (27-22), draw controls (13-9) and also committed two fewer turnovers than the Lady Barons.
The Lady Barons have wrapped up the road portion of their schedule with their seventh consecutive win, totaling more wins this season than the first three seasons in program history combined.
"Everyone has a role to play on the team and each girl is coming out and doing her job," Conant said. "The girls are getting it done as a team and playing their hearts out for one another, especially for the seniors."
Franciscan will begin its final home stand by hosting the College of Wooster on Tuesday, April 19, at 5 p.m.
