STEUBENVILLE - The Lady Baron softball team dropped two conference games to visiting University of Pitt.-Greensburg 15-1 and 12-0. The Lady Barons were able to hold their own until the last innings of the games, improving from five-inning competitions to a complete game.

"In the last innings, we ran out of gas. We played better today than some past games. We need to be more consistent," Coach Walker reiterated.

After the Bobcats dominated the seventh inning of the first game, scoring 10 runs, FUS was able to score their lone run for the day. Anna Ames singled to lead off and with Lindsay Finch's double Ames was able to advance to third. Cecilia Lademan loaded the bases when she got on with a fielder's choice. Iliana Gonzales drove a ball to deep right for a sac fly and brought Anna Ames homes. Although, the Lady Barons' offense struggled to get going, the team hosted a few defensive bright spots today.

"Iliana has played really well for us at second, so we moved her back there from the outfield to try and limit the infield errors. I'm hoping the other girls can match her intensity as a player." Gonzales supplied four tough outs for the Barons in the second game, helping to reduce errors that have been a thorn in their side.

Coach Walker was pleased with another defensive performance by freshman Anna King. "Anna has turned into a really good defensive player for us, especially never having played catcher before this season." The rookie behind the plate showed her agility when she robbed a Bobcat batter from a potential hit by snagging a popped foul in her mitt.

The Lady Barons head to Buffalo, NY this weekend to play Hilbert College on Saturday, April 22 and Medaille College on Sunday.  The team faced Hilbert during spring break play and lost but Coach Walker says they are planning on going up there and getting a win.
