Box Score CRESSON, Pa. - Franciscan men's tennis continued its dominance of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with yet another 9-0 sweep, this time over the Mounties of Mount Aloysius.
"The guys played a really solid match, continued their good play from the past few days," assistant coach Scott Greve said. "The guys are definitely in mid-season form right now and it's exactly where we want them. We couldn't ask them to be at a better stage in their game right now."
Franciscan switched up its doubles lineup a little bit, pairing sophomore Connor Jooste and freshman Richard Watson together at No. 3 doubles. The new partners rolled to an 8-2 victory in their first match together.
No. 1 and No. 2 doubles were equally as dominant as both pairs won by scores of 8-4.
"We were solid in all three doubles," Greve said. "We paired RJ and Connor together at No. 3 doubles to give a new look, new try, at third dubs and they just played a great match. All three doubles teams look great, they're just looking really solid right now."
While almost all singles players had an extremely easy time taking care of their opponents, senior captain David Freytag was the only Baron to struggle during singles play. The senior found himself down 5-4 in a tight first set before rattling off three straight games to win 7-5. Freytag had a much easier time in the second set, winning by a score of 6-2.
"Singles, everybody looked good," Greve said. "David struggled a little bit in his No. 4 singles match. His timing was off a little bit on his ground strokes. With that multi-purpose surface, the ball skids, starts a little quicker. It will throw off your timing a little bit. He was just having a little trouble with timing but he fought through it and continued to play well."
With two more conference matches remaining, the Barons look primed to defend their three-time AMCC title in two weeks.
The Barons will look to remain undefeated in conference play when they play host to Pitt.-Bradford tomorrow, Sunday, April 3, at the Western Area YMCA of Pittsburgh. First serve is at 3:30 p.m.
