Box Score CORAOPOLIS, Pa. - Franciscan men's tennis finished off its third conference match in three days with a 9-0 sweep of Pitt.-Bradford.
"I think, overall, when you have three matches in a row like this, it creates a good consistent mindset for them," assistant coach Shannon Irvin said. "The guys are just in tennis mode. That fact alone, they are on top of their game, and it's just a good preparation for the championship coming up."
All three doubles teams blanked their opponents, winning by scores of 8-0. Singles play started just as quickly as senior captain David Freytag was the first to walk off the courts with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Richard Watson played up in the lineup at No. 5 singles while senior Joseph Staniszewski played No. 6. With his parents in the stands cheering him on, Watson blanked his opponent 6-0 in the first set and won the second 6-1.
"I was just grateful that RJ got to play since his parents were here," Irvin said.
With the snow that unexpectedly fell in Steubenville yesterday, Irvin was thankful once again that the Barons have the Western Area YMCA as their backup home facility.
"With that unpredictability of the snow yesterday, it's just such a blessing to have this facility," Irvin said. "That creates consistency for the guys since we are familiar with the court surfaces."
The Barons will wrap up regular season conference play on Saturday, April 9, when they host Pitt.-Greensburg at 4 p.m.
