Steubenville, OH-The Lady Baron softball team finished their season with two losses against University of Pitt.-Bradford. After the completion of the second game, the team honored their three seniors, Iliana Gonzales, Molly Clarahan and Shannon Starre.

"Iliana is such a great athlete, we could play her anywhere and she would do a great job for us." head coach Jim Walker praised her athleticism. Gonzales plans on working for the San Diego Padres in the communications department following graduation in May.

"Molly was a big addition to the team this year as she pitched for us. Being a senior, she was a leader for the younger players," were Coach Walker's words about #16 who was new to playing for Walker. Molly is getting married in August and after, her and her husband will be doing mission work in China.

The last senior honored was unable to play this season due to a little one on the way. "We missed having Shannon in uniform as she would have been a great leader out on the field for us, but she has done a great job from the sidelines." Shannon and her husband are expecting their first child at the end of May.

In the first game, the Lady Barons held the Panthers in the first inning with a strikeout, caught line drive in left field by Caroline Durand, and Anna King caught a runner attempting to steal third base. On the offensive side, the Lady Barons got out to an early lead with their first time up to bat.  Lindsey Finch led off with her first ever homerun, hit deep out over center field fence. Gonzales took one for the team getting hit by a pitch and took over first. With two outs, Jordan Cunningham snuck a blooper into left field and Gonzales used her speed to score the second run of the inning.

The Lady Barons held the Panthers to one run till the top of the sixth. In one inning the tables turned and the Panthers added 5 runs to their score. The tired Barons lost their momentum and focus with two unfortunate errors that could have ended the inning without any runs scored. The home team was unable to score the rest of the game and fell 7-2.

The second game resulted in Panther domination with a 9-0 win.

"We definitely got better as season went along. Last six games were the best we played this season and as a coach that's what you want to see," were Coach Walker's ending remarks of the season.

The Lady Barons look to continue building their program with high hopes for next season.
