Barons Fall to Muskingum

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Franciscan men's soccer team dropped a 6-2 game to Muskingum in the opening game of the Fuzzy Williams Tournament, Saturday afternoon. 

Muskingum scored two goals late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead before the break. The Barons out-shot the Muskies 6-3 in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net. 

The Muskines added to goals to their lead in the first 10 minutes of the second half, one off a penalty kick, to take a 4-0 lead over the Barons. 

Junior Leo Herrmann scored his fifth goal of the season and the Barons' first goal of the game 19:44 into the second half to cut the lead back to 4-1. Zach Schmauch pushed the Muskie lead back to four goals just four minutes later. Senior captain Joseph Duran converted his first penatly kick of the season to cut the lead to 5-2 with less than 15 minutes to play. 

Gage Toy scored the game's final goal to bring the score to its final, 6-2. 

The Barons out-shot the Muskies 16-9 for the game and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. 

"We have some stuff to work on and have to get better across the board - player, coaches, our formation. We'll get there, we just have to work," remarked head coach Christian Bobak. "Joe Duran played a good game today and we did some things well, we just have to get back out there and put it together."

The Barons have the chance tomorrow to redeem the loss as they take on Alfred State to wrap up the Fuzzy Williams Tournament at 1 pm.
