Men's Tennis Falls to Indiana-East to Open the Year

STEUBENVILLE - Sophomore RJ Watson picked up where he left off last season and won a pair of matches but the Franciscan men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 6-3 match to Indiana-East, Saturday afternoon. 

Watson and Jack Galla paired for the first Baron win of the day with a tight 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles. Junior John Gallagher and graduate student David Freytag took No. 1 doubles into a tie break but ended up losing, 9-8.

Gallagher earned his first win of the season at No. 1 singles, a position he is not used to playing. The junior excelled in his match as he swept his opponent, 6-1, 6-4. 

Watson earned the other win for the Barons with a strong showing at No. 3 singles. After taking the first set into a tie-break and coming out on top 7-6 (2), Watson rolled to a 6-1 win to close out the match. 

The Barons hit the courts against on September 21 to face Grove City at 4:30 pm.
