SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Freshmen Grace Galligan and Bernadette Williams led the Franciscan women's cross country team at the National Catholic Cross Country Meet, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, Friday afternoon.
Galligan took home 55th place out of 216 runners in South Bend with an impressive time of 19:42.4 in the first 5K race of the year. Williams was not far behind as she captured 79th place with a time of 20:07.2.
Junior Angela Penza was the third Franciscan runner to cross the line at 21:17.2 just .2 ahead of freshman Rose McGrath who took 130th at 21:17.4.
Lauren Schubliske took fifth for the Lady Barons at 23:07.8. Jennifer Sullivan (23:12.9) and Allison Krall (23:29.7) rounded out the scoring runners for Franciscan.
As a team, the Lady Barons took 18th out of 30 teams in the college division, and was the only AMCC team to compete in South Bend.
The Franciscan runners will return home next weekend as they host the Franciscan Invite on September 24 at 10:30 am.
