Box Score 2 WOOSTER – The Franciscan volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Wooster before falling to Capital 3-1 in the final game of the Marcia French Memorial/Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic, Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Barons struggled in the first game of the day, falling to Wooster by set scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-16. Freshman Roz Pridemore shined for FUS in the middle with five kills and a solo block and a block assist.
"If there was ever a year where I would say it is a process and there is something to work on each match, it's this year," remarked head coach Kelly Herrmann. "We take it step by step, identify what we have to work on and work on it each week."
The Lady Barons came out strong against Capital at took a 24-23 set lead but Capital scored three straight points and took the first set 26-24. The Crusaders built a 21-15 lead in the second set and used a 4-2 run at the end behind four kills from three different players to take the second set, 25-17. The two teams battled to a 6-6 tie to open the third set before the Lady Barons built a 13-8 lead. FUS eventually pushed its lead to 22-13 behind a pair of service aces from Mary Moore. Callahan Hickey and Annie Nehrbas closed out the set with back to back kills to force a fourth set with a 25-20 win.
The Crusaders came out of the gate quickly in the fourth set with an 11-2 run to take control of the game. The Lady Barons got some points back with six-straight points in the middle of the set, 15-12, but Capital closed out the set with three-straight points to take the set 25-17, and the match.
"We definitely did some things well today," commented coach Herrmann. "We played three different setters against Capital and are starting to figure out where people need to play."
Moore was named to the All-Tournament team for her solid and consistent play throughout the weekend.
The Lady Barons travel to Chatham on Thursday before hosting the AMCC quad match on Saturday.
