Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Franciscan women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-0 loss to Hilbert on Saturday afternoon to open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action.
The Lady Barons and Hawks were locked in a tight battle for most of the contest. Franciscan was not without its chances, however, as the Lady Barons outshot the Hawks 10-2 in the first half. Junior Clare Kennedy put the first ball on the net for Franciscan just 2:32 into the contest but was turned away by Hilbert goalie Jenna Castricone. Franciscan had two good chances at the end of the half but could not capitalize and Franciscan and Hilbert settled for a 0-0 tie at the half.
"We definitely had our chances today," remarked head coach Clare McBane. "We know what we have to work on and we will keep working harder. We just have to finish the opportunities we get."
With the game knotted 0-0 late in the game, Hilbert capitalized on its opportunity as Jennifer Colvin created a shot from about 30 yards out and crossed it into the net to give the host's a 1-0 lead. The Hawks scored the last goal of the game with just 22 seconds left before the final buzzer to seal the win at 2-0.
Katie Kilian and Megan Riederer led the team with shots with four and three each.
"Kate Janney had a great game for us. She really worked hard today and kept the game close."
The Lady Barons look to even their conference record at 1-1 when they travel to Pitt.-Greensburg on Tuesday at 6:30pm.
