Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – Junior Leo Herrmann posted three points in the Franciscan men's soccer 2-0 win over Hilbert to open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Herrmann's goal and assist in the second half pushed his career total to 100 as a junior. He entered the season with 25 points and has 12 goals and assist so far this year. Herrmann is the first Baron to reach the 100-point milestone in program history.
The Barons and Hawks played a scoreless first half as FUS out-shot Hilbert 14-8 and junior Thomas Dosedel made two saves in the first 45 minutes.
Franciscan wasted little time as the second half started to break the 0-0 tie. After a header from Herrmann was saved and a shot from junior Michael Bobak was blocked, senior Joe Francis got the Barons on the board. Herrmann fed the ball into the box for Francis who shot it into the right corner of the net 3:46 into the half.
The score remained the same for the next 35 minutes until Herrmann found the net himself. Sophomore Mark Fioramonti sent a slow roller to Herrmann who put it in goal for his 12th goal this year and 100th point of his career and gave the Barons a 2-0 win to open AMCC action.
"It was a good game today and a hard fought win," remarked head coach Christian Bobak. "Obviously we are always happy with a win but we still have some room for improvement as we get deeper in conference play."
Dosedel posted his second shutout of the season with four saves, two in each half, to improve to 5-3-1 on the year.
"Joe Francis had a great game for us – so did Leo," continued coach Bobak. "Having our second shutout of the season was a great and Tom played a great game in net for us. The backline played well and freshman Joe Leonardi really had a great game."
The Barons out-shot the Hawks 28-14 and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Herrmann had 12 of FUS' 28 shots.
Franciscan looks to improve to 2-0 in the AMCC on Tuesday when the Barons travel to Pitt.-Greensburg for an 8:30 pm start.
