Box Score

GREENSBURG, Pa. – In a critical AMCC matchup with the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats, the Franciscan volleyball team rose to the challenge and swept their hosts, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon.

The win improves the Lady Barons to 6-15 on the year and moves them to 5-3 in the league with one conference match left for the season. The Lady Barons are locked in a four-way tie for a spot in the AMCC tournament.

Franciscan rolled to a quick 25-13 win in the opening set before battling the Bobcats for a 28-26 win in the second set. After trailing 8-4 early in the final set, the Lady Barons pushed ahead to tie the set at 8-8 and eventually took a lead they would maintain on the way to a 25-19 win in the final set.

"We had a game plan going into to tonight's match," remarked head coach Kelly Herrmann. "We knew who we wanted to defend and how we wanted to do it and the girls executed the game plan. I am really proud of how they played tonight. It was a perfect match, but they played aggressively and cleaned up a lot of mistakes."

Lead the Lady Barons at the net were junior Maria Ciola and freshman Meghan Bayer with 10 kills apiece while freshman Anna Telepak and senior Monica Rigaud each picked up seven.

"We really did what we needed to protect our side of the net and our middles performed very well," continued Coach Herrmann. "Monica blocked really well and Meghan was great on the attack."

Rigaud finished the day with a pair of solo blocks and assisted on four more while Bayer hit a .444 clip, her best hitting percentage of the career.

Defensively, sophomore Maddie Demos, freshman Sydney Riley and Ciola each finished with nine digs. Riley dished out 33 assists.

The Lady Barons will host D'Youville on Saturday, looking to secure their seventh-straight AMCC tournament appearance. The match is slated to begin at 1 pm and the Lady Barons will honor senior Monica Rigaud following the game.
