Box Score BUFFALO, NY – The Franciscan men's lacrosse team struggled to get its offense going as the Barons fell to Hilbert, 28-8, Saturday evening.
The Barons did strike first as sophomore Joe Lomady scored just nine seconds into action. Lomady won the opening face off and picked up the ground ball and went immediately to the cage for his 26th goal of the season. The lead would be short-lived, however, as the Hawks scored a pair of goals over the next 1:12 to take the 2-1 lead. Junior Jonas McCaig evened the game just three seconds later. After another quick Hawk goal, junior Mike Rosaschi tied the game at 3-3 while the Barons were on an extra-man opportunity. Hilbert responded with a pair of goals before Dan McCartney's only goal of the game kept the Barons within one goal, 5-4, with seven minutes to play.
Hilbert then went on a 16-0 run, reaching into the third quarter to take a 21-4 lead. Lomady halted the Hawk run with his second of the game 2:19 into the third quarter. Matthew Simon and Lomady traded goals before the Hawks scored two-straight to take a 24-6 lead. McCaig scored the Barons final goal of the third with 11:31 to play to cut the lead to 24-7. Hilbert then scored the game's next four goals before Lomady capped the scoring with his fourth of the game with less than five minutes to play in the fourth to bring the score to its final, 28-8.
Lomady led the Barons with four goals while McCaig had two goals and an assist. Rosaschi and McCartney each chipped in a goal. Lomady won 13-of-15 face offs and picked up 12 ground balls while McCaig had five.
The Barons wrap up their trip to Buffalo with a game against Medaille tomorrow at 12pm.
