BETHANY, W. Va. – The Franciscan men's track and field team had a solid day at the Bethany Invitational, Saturday, as the Barons collected seven top-10 finishes throughout the day.
The Barons were especially impressive in the mid-distance and distance races today, posting four of their seven top-10 finishes in those events. The 10,000-meter run featured three Barons in the top-10. Freshman Matthew Crotteau was the first Franciscan runner to cross the finish line as he took fourth with a time of 34:36.43. Sophomore Nicholas Long was just a minute behind Crotteau as he took fifth with a time of 35:27.47. Emmett Delaney rounded out the finishers for the Barons as he took eighth with a time of 39:35.29.
The 1500-meter run had a strong showing of Barons as three placed in the top-20. Patrick Tansill took sixth with a time of 4:21.11 while Joseph Gallagher took 11th with a time of 4:24.53. Sophomore John Bolster came in at 18th with a time of 4:32.57 and James Sarlo rounded out the runners with a time of 5:26.46 for a 36th place finish.
Tansill took 15th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.89 while Bolster completed the 800 meter with a time of 2:07.87 for a 16th place finish.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Jim Craig, Nathaniel Belk, James Mello and Tysz took sixth with a time of 46.66, just two seconds off of the FUS school record. The 4x400-meter relay team featuring Fabian, Craig, Gallagher and Belk took fifth with a time of 3:38.41.
Craig took ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.67.
The Barons will compete in the Westminster Invite next Saturday.
