Box Score STEUBNEVILLE – The Franciscan women's lacrosse team scored early and often as the Lady Barons rolled to a 15-2 win over Westminster for their fourth-straight win, Monday afternoon.
In their final game before a quick Easter break, the Lady Barons set the tone of the game early. Junior Mary Krolicki scored her first of four goals on the game as she took a pass from sophomore Carly McDonald and scored just 31 seconds into action. McDonald handled the ball herself on the Lady Barons next possession to put FUS up 2-0 before a minute of game time had elapsed.
The Lady Barons kept pressure on as sophomore Elizabeth McEntee sandwiched a pair of goals around another one from McDonald before helping out on Krolicki's third of the game to give Franciscan a 7-0 lead with 18:39 to play. That goal marked the junior's 100th point as a Lady Baron. For her career, Krolicki now has 89 goals and 102 points after today's game.
Freshman Elaine Kelly, McEntee and senior Anne Foster closed out the half with three-straight goals to give FUS a 10-0 lead at the break.
Elizabeth Giroux gave the Lady Barons a 11-0 lead just 32 seconds into action of the second half. Giroux positioned herself perfectly in front of the net to take a pass from Kelly and buried the ball past the goalie's right shoulder. Elizabeth Dawyot scored her first of the game after handing out an assist in the first half with exactly 22 minutes to play as she took a great pass from Foster put the ball perfectly on net to give FUS a 12-0 lead.
The Titans got on the board 1:12 later as Sarah Nutter won the next draw control and immediately took it to the net and scored Westminster's first goal of the game. Kelly won the next draw for the Lady Barons and Franciscan went to work on the other end other the field. Concentrating on good passes and setting up their offense, the Lady Barons waited until the ball was in the stick of sure-shooting Krolicki who scored her fourth goal of the game off a perfect pass from Dawyot with 17:48 to play.
Dawyot and McEntee then went back-to-back on goals on the next two Lady Baron possessions to give Franciscan a 15-1 lead with 13:38 to play.
Westminster scored the game's final goal at 5:57 as the Lady Barons were able to run out the clock for the 15-2 win.
Kroclicki and McEntee each had four goals and an assist while Dawyot had a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Defensively, sophomore Elizabeth Jordan finished the day with a game-high six caused turnovers while senior Christine Rice caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Freshman Brittany Bain made seven saves in her sixth win as a Lady Baron.
Following the Easter break, the Lady Barons will host Notre Dame (OH) on Tuesday, April 18 at 5:00 pm.
