Box Score STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan women's lacrosse team honored its six graduating seniors following the 13-5 win over visiting Wilmington (OH) Quakers, Saturday afternoon.
On a day that the Lady Barons honored their six graduating seniors, junior Mary Krolicki paid homage to the women than came before her with a game-leading five goals. Krolicki's fifth goal of the game marked her 100th of her career and is the fastest Lady Baron to hit that milestone as reached it in her 39th game. In her career, Krolicki has 100 goals and 15 assists.
Franciscan got off to a quick start, scoring seven goals in the first 12 minutes of action. Krolicki led the Lady Barons with three goals while sophomore Carly McDonald posted a pair and senior Anne Foster scored her first of the game.
The Quakers halted the FUS run with a pair of goals in less than a minute (11:58/11:02) but Franciscan closed out the half with a goal from Krolicki off an assist from senior Maryanna Leonard to give FUS a 8-2 lead at the break.
Clara Blaine opened the second half with a quick goal for the Quakers before Leonard and Elaine Kelly went back-to-back to give Franciscan a 10-3 lead.
Hannah Gratsch stopped the FUS run with 17:32 to play but Franciscan was able to push its lead to 13-4 with 2:24 to play thanks to a goal from sophomore Treise McCarthy, Krolicki and McDonald. The Quakers closed out the game's scoring as Becca Petra made the score 13-5 in favor of Franciscan with 20 seconds to play.
The Quakers won the final draw control but Leonard quickly caused a turnover. Despite their best effort, the Lady Barons were unable to possess the ball but Wilmington did not capitalize on its possession and Franciscan won 13-5.
"I am really proud of how we played today," complimented head coach Maura Conant. "I am really proud of Maryanna, coming back from an injury and handing out four assists with her one goal."
Krolicki led with five goals while Leonard finished with a goal a four assists. McDonald finished with three goals and senior Anne Foster with two. McCarthy and Kelly each finished with a goal while the children line music.
Krolicki's five goals pushed her career total to 100, and the junior is the fastest player in Lady Baron history to reach the 100-goal mark.
"I am really proud of Mary, too, on reaching 100 goals today," remarked Coach Conant.
Franciscan will play in its final home game of the season on April 28.
