BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Franciscan rugby team rolled to an impressive 54-0 win over Geneva, Saturday afternoon.
Though it took until about the 10-minute mark for the Barons to really find their rhythm, once they did, they were able to control the pace of the game and pay their own game.
"We are still working out the kinks in our attack along with players getting comfortable in new positions," commented head coach Dan Kramer. "We were able to control the pace of the game in the second and played our style of rugby. Every man on the pitch played heads-up rugby and worked in unison."
Jacob Borden had a hat trick and was constantly in the right place at the right time and was able to capitalize on it. Terren Huck scored two tries in the closing minutes. David Hahn scored a first-half try in his first start for Franciscan.
"It was great to have Terren back," continued Coach Kramer.
The Man of the Match was Patrick Rowles. Rowles stepped up for the team and played wing for most of the game as the Ruggers were short on players. Despite playing wing, Rowles jumped in the lineouts and won every Franciscan lineout and stole many Geneva ones. He was a key part of our defense as he consistently kept our guys spread across the field.
"I was really impressed with our entire forward pack today," complimented Coach Kramer. "From Gabe Iacoviello, a rookie earning his first start, to James Weiss, a four-year starter, everyone had great focus and unselfish play. We have a lot of experience in this year's pack and it really shows in open play."
The Barons look to continue this momentum into their next match against Carnegie Mellon at home on September 23 at 1pm.
