Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Franciscan women's soccer team struggled to finish its offensive chances as the Lady Barons fell to Chatham, 3-0, on the road Wednesday evening.
"I am really pleased in how the team recovered from a hard loss on Tuesday," remarked head coach Clare McBane. "We really played well against a tough team but we definitely have things to improve on. We had a much better build through the midfield on offense and we got the ball into the box, we are just not getting off the shots when they count."
Freshman Kelsey Scott-Avery got the Lady Barons only shot off in the 18th minute but it was stopped by the Chatham goalkeeper.
"I was impressed with the combination play between Megan Luiso, Clare Kennedy, and Emily Wieszczek," continued Coach McBane. We are doing well getting the ball into the box, we just need to learn to finish."
Chatham scored its first goal of the game in the 34th minute before adding two more in the second half to seal the 3-0 win.
Junior Sarah Luebking spent the full 90 in goal against Chatham and made six stops.
"Having a player like Sarah that has her skills both in the goal and in the field is invaluable," commented Coach McBane. "We are trying to find where her strengths are the most useful for the team. It is important to put her in a spot that she can really give to the team to her best ability and play to her full potential. And that's what we are trying to figure out now."
The Lady Barons return home to kickoff AMCC action on Saturday when they host Hilbert for a 3:15 pm start.
"We have intentionally scheduled two very good and very fast teams back to back before conference play to get us ready for what we'll see against [the AMCC] teams," commented Coach McBane on the scheduling. "These two hard losses will not only teach us what we need to improve on but show us what great teams are doing and we can pull from that and see how it fits in our game. We don't want to see a drop in our level of play when we hit conference and games like these past two will help us play at a high level the rest of the way."
