Bobcats Out-Last Lady Barons in AMCC Contest

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE – Despite outshooting Pitt.-Greensburg, the Franciscan women's soccer team suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Lady Barons fell to the Bobcats, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon.

Franciscan out-shot the Bobcats 9-4 in the first half, but Pitt.-Greensburg had the only shot reach the back of the net early in the first. Alexa Fetterman followed her own first shot that was saved by junior keeper Sarah Luebking and put the ball right out of Luebking's right 1:48 into action to give UPG a 1-0 lead.

Junior Elizabeth Dawyot followed the Bobcat goal with a rocket right on net but the UPG goalie got her hands on the ball to keep the lead intact. After a corner kick from Dawyot at the 24:29 mark, the Lady Barons rattled off eight-straight shots within a 10 minutes span with another Dawyot peppered in, but could not get the ball past the goal line. Franciscan continued to maintain possession but the half ended 1-0 in favor of the Bobcats after Dawyot's third corner of the half.

Following the break, the Lady Barons were called for a yellow card in the 18-yard box, giving the Bobcats a penalty kick just over five minutes into the new half. Bri Burgunder converted her PK and gave UPG a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Barons didn't let the two-goal deficit slow them down as they put four more shots on goal in the half, but couldn't find the back of the net as the score remained 2-0 in favor of UPG at the final buzzer.

For the game, Franciscan out-shot the Bobcats 13-6 while the teams were even 5-5 in corner kicks.

Senior Megan Luiso led the Lady Barons with three shots while Dawyot, Katie Kilian, and Bateman each checked in with two.

Luebking finished the day with a pair of saves in net.

Franciscan hits the road this Saturday as the team heads to Buffalo, NY to take on D'Youville at 3:15 pm.
