Lady Barons Win Fifth-Straight AMCC Match

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Franciscan women's tennis team rolled to its fifth-straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference sweep as the Lady Barons defeated Pitt.-Bradford on the road, Thursday evening.

Playing under the lights, the Lady Barons got out to a quick 3-0 lead after doubles. The junior duo of Taranee Karimpour and Julia Razook were the first two off of the court at No. 2 doubles as they won their fifth AMCC doubles match, 7-1. Sophomore Grace Hammel and senior captain Emmy Mathias followed soon after with a 7-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Junior captain Maria Binette and sophomore Madelyn Conrad wrapped up the doubles sweep with a 7-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Conrad continued her conference winning streak with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles right before Binette wrapped up the match win with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Hammel and Karimpour turned in the only perfect scores of the day as Hammel took the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and Karimpour did the same at No. 5.

Razook had the toughest battle of the day at No. 4 singles. After winning the first set 6-1, the junior dropped the second 6-4 in a back and forth battle. Razook came back in the tie-break and earned every point in her 11-9 win to stay perfect in conference action on the year.

Mathias closed out the match with a 9-8 pro-set win at No. 6 singles after taking the tie-break, 6-4.

The Lady Barons continue their quest for back-to-back AMCC championships as they head to Penn St.-Behrend on Friday for a 4pm match.
