Lady Barons Sweep La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Franciscan women's tennis team earned its second-straight shutout of an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Friday afternoon as the Lady Barons swept La Roche, 9-0.

Playing with a consistent lineup in doubles, the Lady Barons were able to earn three wins, dropping just five games altogether, in the first three matches.

Sophomore Madelyn Conrad and junior Maria Binette earned an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Grace Hammel and senior Emmy Mathias did not drop a game at No. 3 doubles with the 8-0 win. Juniors Julia Razook and Taranee Karimpour picked up their second win of the year together at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win.

Conrad at No. 1 singles and Binette at No. 2 singles continued their strong play into their individual matches as they both won 6-0, 6-0. Karimpour won in straight sets as well at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while senior Marisa Pinto won handily at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Hammel earned her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while Razook won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-5.

The Lady Barons have little time to rest as they travel to Pitt.-Greensburg today for a 5:30 pm match.
