MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Franciscan softball team suffered a pair of losses on the third day of the Lady Barons annual spring break trip. Franciscan fell to St. Joseph (Conn.) 10-2 in the opening game before suffering a 9-1 loss to Wesley to wrap up the day.

Sophomore Kayla Anderson led Franciscan at the plate today as she finished the two games 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Behind the plate, only one runner was successful stealing a base on Anderson.

In the first game against St. Joseph, the Lady Barons found themselves in unfamiliar territory this season down five runs after the first two innings. The Blue Jays added three runs between the top of the fourth and the top of the fifth inning to push their lead to 8-0. The Lady Barons would not be shut out, however, as Anderson led off the bottom of the fifth with their first hit of the game. The sophomore quickly stole second to get herself in scoring position. Junior captain Anna Ames followed suit with a single of her own, bringing home Anderson. After stealing second, herself, Ames came around to score on freshman Victoria Clute's double to cut the lead down to 8-2.

The Blue Jays closed out the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to seal the 10-2 win.

Franciscan dropped its final game of day later in the afternoon as Wesley used eight runs over the third, fourth, and fifth innings to picked up a 9-1 five-inning win. Trailing 1-0 after the first, the Lady Barons tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second. With Anderson on second, junior Haylee Weiss singled up the middle to bring home Anderson with just one out. The Lady Barons were unable to get Ames in from second and had to settle for the single run in the inning.

The Wolverines picked up four runs in the bottom of the third to break the game open with a  5-1 lead and went on to post one run in the fourth and walk off with three runs in the fifth.

Franciscan looks to rebound and closes out its spring break trip as the Lady Barons take on Albertus Magnus and Brooklyn tomorrow at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, respectively.
