WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Franciscan softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Waynesburg, Friday afternoon. The Lady Barons fell 8-0 in the opening game before rebounding for a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

"I was really happy with how the team bounced back in the second game," remarked head coach Jim Walker. "Andi really controlled the game and any time we get pitching like that we have a chance to win.

Defensively we didn't have any errors in the second game and that is really big for us. We really talk about not giving teams extra outs or bases on defense and we did a good job of that in the second game."
Andi Queen pitched a complete game in her second game win, allowing just two runs on eight hits and struck out a pair of batters.

After being shutout in the first game, the Lady Barons struck first in the nightcap. Sophomore Kayla Anderson plated the first run with an RBI double that brought home freshman Allyson Weiss. With Anderson on second, sophomore Anna Fluharty traded places with Weiss with a double to left center to give FUS a 2-0 lead.

Queen threw a perfect bottom of the first before Franciscan plated two more runs to give the Lady Barons a 4-0 lead. With runners on second and third and one out, sophomore Dennise Carrazco flew out to center to score Queen. Weiss followed it up with an RBI single to score senior Lindsey Finch and give Franciscan a 4-0 lead.

Queen pitched a scoreless second inning before the Yellow Jackets got one run back in the bottom of the third on an RBI single. Waynesburg scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out RBI single but Queen pitched a spotless bottom of the seventh for the win.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, Franciscan couldn't get the big hit it needed and Waynesburg used a four-run third inning to pick up the 8-0 win.

Weiss finished the day going 5-for-7 at the plate with five more stolen bases between the two games. The freshman scored once and drove in a run for the Lady Barons.

"Offensively Allyson had another great day," continued Coach Walker. "She had five hits over the two games, but more importantly she puts so much pressure on teams with her speed."

Four different players had a multi-hit game against Waynesburg in game two while sophomore Anna Fluharty had a hit in game one and game two for the Lady Barons.

"Today was a really good effort from the girls as we continue to shuffle the lineup to make up for some injuries we are dealing with," commented Coach Walker.

The Lady Barons will return to the field on Wednesday, March 28 as they host Pitt.-Greensburg in their home opener at 3:00 pm to open AMCC action.
