McEntee's Late Goal Lifts Lady Barons Past Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Junior Elizabeth McEntee scored with 2:29 left on the clock to lift the Franciscan women's lacrosse team to a dramatic 14-13 win over Westminster (Pa.), Tuesday evening.

After leading 9-4 at halftime, the Lady Barons found themselves tied with the Titans 13-13 with just over three minutes left in regulation. Head coach Maura Conant called a timeout after the game-tying goal at 13-13 and drew up an offensive scheme to get the Lady Barons back on top. Senior Mary Krolicki won the draw control coming out of the timeout and got Franciscan on offense. The Lady Barons used about half of their 90-second possession clock and McEntee had the ball in her stick behind the net. The junior wrapped around the net, staying close to the crease, and shot right over the goalie's right shoulder for the game-winning goal.

Franciscan won the next draw control and had the ball on offense for almost a minute of game time before an ill-timed turnover got the Titans back on offense. Westminster cleared the ball and was poised to attack the net with just under a minute to play when an offensive charge was called and the ball was back with the Lady Barons. Franciscan cleared the ball and was able to run out the clock for the 14-13 win.

Franciscan took a commanding 9-4 lead in the first half but the Titans found their stride with three-straight goals to cut the Lady Baron lead to 9-7 with 19:50 to play in the second. Freshman Maria Hilkert halted the Titan run as she took a pass from Krolicki and scored with 17:23 to play. Emily D'Amico sandwiched a pair of Titan goals around junior Treise McCarthy's goal to keep Westminster within two goals with 14:40 to play. Freshman Morgan Hall scored her first career goal as she took a perfect pass from McCarthy and beat a pair of defenders to give FUS a 12-9 lead with 12:42 to play. McCarthy pushed the Lady Baron lead back to four just over a minute later. Westminster went on a four-goal run spanning nine minutes of gameplay to tie the game and set up McEntee's dramatic game-winning goal.

Franciscan got five goals from Krolicki in the first half to go with three from junior Carly McDonald and one from McCarthy to hold a commanding 9-4 lead at the break. The Lady Baron defense allowed back-to-back goals just once in the first 30 minutes.

Junior Brittany Bain posted nine saves in her fourth win of the season. McEntee handing out five assists to go with her game-winning goal while Krolicki finished the day with five goals and an assist. Senior Bridget Clune led the Lady Barons with three ground balls while McEntee won five of Franciscan's 14 draw controls.

The Lady Barons return to action after Easter break as they host Wooster on April 3 at 5:00 pm to kick off NCAA DIII Week at Franciscan.
