Balanced Offense Leads Lady Barons to Win

STEUBENVILLE – 11 different players registered at least one point for the Franciscan women's lacrosse team as the Lady Barons rolled to a 23-0 win over Waynesburg, Thursday afternoon.

The balanced attack laid the groundwork for a pair of single-game team offensive records as Franciscan scored a program-best 23 goals, 12 of which were assisted, for 35 team points, also a program record. The 12 assists tied the top mark for a single-game in the Lady Barons' history. Senior Mary Krolicki had a record day for Franciscan as well as she broke the single-game draw control record with 12 and pushed her career total to 202 for the last four years.

Krolicki got things started for the Lady Barons with a pair of goals in the first three minutes of action, the second of which was assisted by freshman Elizabeth Galaburri. Junior Treise McCarthy scored a pair herself within 18 seconds of each other to give Franciscan a 4-0 lead five minutes into the game. Freshman Maria Hilkert got on the board with a pair of goals, both assisted by junior Elizabeth McEntee, for the 6-0 lead. After another goal from McCarthy and Hilkert, freshman Madeline Smith scored her first career goal on free position shot with 11:45 to play in the first half. Krolicki sandwiched a pair of goals around a goal from McEntee before Hilkert and senior Bridget Clune closed out the half with a goal each.
The Lady Barons led 14-0 at the break.

Coming out of halftime, Krolicki scored quickly before senior Emmy Mathias netted her first career goal off a pass from McEntee. McEntee once again found the back of the net herself before junior Carly McDonald and freshman Blair Wonderly each scored to give Franciscan a 19-0 lead with 18:46 to play.

After a goal from McCarthy, McDonald, and Krolicki gave Franciscan a 22-0 lead, McEntee closed out the scoring with her third goal of the game for the 23-0 win.

Junior Brittany Bain stopped a free position shot with just eight seconds left in the game to preserve her first career shutout. Bain stopped all five shots she faced in the win for the Lady Barons.

Krolicki finished the day with six goals while McEntee handed out five assists to go with her three goals. McCarthy and Hilkert each finished with four goals while McCarthy added an assist and McDonald had two goals and four assists.

Franciscan will return to action when the Lady Barons travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday for a 2:00 pm contest.
