Box Score BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Franciscan women's lacrosse suffered a 16-2 loss to NCAA DII opponent, West Virginia Wesleyan, Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats took a quick 4-0 lead in the first four minutes before senior Mary Krolicki got the Lady Barons on the board thanks to an assist from junior Elizabeth McEntee. Krolicki has now registered at least one point in 28 straight games, going back to 2016, her sophomore season. The Chantilly, VA native has at least one point in 46 of the 48 games in which she has played for the Lady Barons and has played in 48 of the 49 games on the schedule since her freshman year.
Following Krolicki's goal, West Virginia Wesleyan used a 6-0 run to open up a 10-1 lead with 7:04 to play in the first half. After freshman Blair Wonderly's shot went wide at the 2:20 mark, the Lady Barons maintained possession and junior Carly McDonald cut the lead back down to eight with her 13th goal of the season, bringing her just three points away from 100 for her career. The Bobcats got the goal back just 17 seconds later and junior goalie Brittany Bain made a save with six seconds left in the half to bring the score to 11-2 in favor of the Bobcats at the break.
West Virginia Wesleyan held Franciscan scoreless in the second half as the Bobcats added five goals in the final 30 minutes to seal the 16-2 win.
Bain made 13 saves in cage for the Lady Barons and McEntee grabbed a game-best six draw controls. Freshman Madeline Smith led the Lady Barons with three groundballs.
Franciscan returns home on Wednesday when the Lady Barons host Medaille for a 4:00 pm contest.
