Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Franciscan volleyball team fell in straight sets to Carnegie Mellon, 3-0, Tuesday night. The Tartans won by set scores of 25-9, 25-9, 25-9.
The Lady Barons fell to 1-13 on the year while the Tartans improved to 7-5.
Senior Maria Ciola (Burk, VA/Mother of Divine Grace) led the Lady Barons with five kills and a pair of digs while freshman setter Emily Nutter (Newark, OH/Newark Catholic) handed out seven assists and had eight digs for the day. Freshmen Emma Birong (Carrollton, OH/Carrollton), Caitlin O'Malley (Alturas, CA/Modoc), and Nutter each had a pair of kills as well for Franciscan.
Defensively, junior Lauren Betar (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) had seven digs while junior Sarah Murgia (Perkasie, PA/Lansdale Catholic) picked up six for the day.
Franciscan will return to action this weekend when the Lady Barons travel to Buffalo, NY for the AMCC quad match on Saturday. Franciscan will play Penn St.-Behrend in its opening match at 12:00 pm followed by a match against hosts Medaille at 4:00 pm.
