STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan men's cross country team won the 2018 Franciscan Invite on Saturday as the Barons were led by sophomore Liam Galligan (Springfield, Pa/Galligan Academy) on a muddy and hilly course through Franciscan's campus.
Galligan, the reigning AMCC Runner of the Week, let the pack of runners from the start and finished with a 1:56.36 lead over the second-place runner. The sophomore crossed the finish line at 26:00.36 for the win.
A pack of Baron runners came in third through sixth to secure the team victory for Franciscan. Senior Nick Long (Youngstown, OH/Boardman) finished third overall with a time of 28:00.71. Sophomore Mark Borek (Hamburg, MI/Detroit Catholic Central) was right on Long's heels as he took fourth overall with a time of 28:00.91, just .2 off of third. Senior Grady Stuckman (Cincinnati, OH/Summit County Day School) was not far behind as he crossed the finish line 28:01.74, just under a second behind Borek.
Junior Matthew Crotteau (Metamora, IL/Metamora Township) rounded out the scoring runners for Franciscan as he took sixth overall with a time of 28:17.13. Freshman Michael Sobus (Charlotte, NC/Ardrey Kell) finished 15th overall with a time of 30:52.50 while classmate Riley Brooks took 17th with a time of 34:38.49.
The Barons will run next Saturday at the All-Ohio meet in Akron, Ohio.
