Box Score STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan women's tennis team improved to 10-0 on the season as the Lady Barons swept Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, D'Youville, 9-0 early Sunday afternoon.
Seniors Julia Razook (Sugar Land, TX/Laurel Springs School) and Taranee Karimpour (Ona, WV/St. Joseph) made quick work of their No. 3 doubles opponents as the duo worked an 8-0 win to give Franciscan a 1-0 lead in the match. Junior Grace Hammel (North Falmouth, MA/St. Mary's Ryken) and sophomore Ana Victoria Haddad Garcia (Chihuahua, Chih. Mexico, Bachillerto Academy) continue to play steady and consistent doubles tennis as the pair earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Senior Maria Binette (Owings Mills, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) and junior Madelyn Conrad (Bethlehem, PA/Home School) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Hammel earned the first point in singles action for the Lady Barons as she got the win at No. 5 singles after her opponent could not compete due to injury. Razook was the first to finish her singles match as she defeated her D'Youville opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to seal the win for the Lady Barons. Karimpour earned a clean sweep of her No. 6 singles opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Binette also turned in a clean sweep of singles as she defeated her No. 2 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0 to give Franciscan a 7-0 lead in the match. After dropping just a single point in the first set, Haddad came back and blanked her opponent in the second set to take the No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-0.
Conrad closed out the match for the Lady Barons with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to close out another perfect season in conference play for the Lady Barons as Franciscan moved to 8-0 in the AMCC.
Franciscan returns to the court next Friday as the Lady Barons faceoff against non-conference opponent Muskingum in a 4:30 pm match at Belleview Courts.
