Luebking Sets FUS Career Save Record in 2OT Loss

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Senior keeper Sarah Luebking set the Franciscan career save record with her career-best 15 saves in a tough 2-1 double-overtime loss to Waynesburg, Friday evening.

Luebking, a Littleton, CO native, hit 222 saves for her career, breaking the previous career-save record of 218 held by Lauren Koath (2010-12). Luebking came into tonight's contest with 207 saves placing her third on the all-time list.

The two teams battled to a scoreless first half where Luebking made seven saves, including one in the first three minutes of action. Luebking ended the half with three saves on the final four shots the Yellow Jackets took as the final shot of the half went wide.

After four more Luebking saves 20 minutes into the second half, the Lady Barons finally broke the scoreless tie as junior Kaitrin O'Leary took possession of the ball turned over in the box and one-timed it over the goalie before she could recover to her feet in the 77th minute. Luebking made a save on the very next Yellow Jacket possession to keep the lead, however, nine minutes later Waynesburg had one of their best scoring chances in the half up until that point when Meghan Briski's shot banged off of the post on a breakaway going one-on-one with Luebking.

Waynesburg tied the game a minute later as Briski took a cross from Emily Hill and shot it through Luebking's legs for the game-tying goal.

With 1:38 left on the clock, Luebking made one final save in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Waynesburg got the only shots of the first overtime period off, three of which off target and the fourth was stopped by Luebking. The Yellow Jackets pressed to opened the second half and got a shot off in the first 3:03 of the period but Luebking made her 15th stop of the game to keep the contest tied. Franciscan got its only overtime shot off 39 seconds later as freshman Clare Burgess' shot was turned away by the Yellow Jackets' keeper. Two minutes later, Waynesburg was awarded a corner kick and the cross in the box deflected off a Lady Baron just out the reach of Luebking and Waynesburg walked away with the 2-1 double overtime win.

Waynesburg out-shot the Lady Barons 31-9 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lady Barons will have the rest of the weekend off before hosting Westminster (Pa.) on Wednesday, September 12 for a 2:00 pm contest.
