STEUBENVILLE –The Lady Barons faced a tough loss Wednesday night in the AMCC matchup against Mount Aloysius, 79-47. A tough first half set the Lady Barons behind for the rest of the game.
The Mounties dominated the first half, scoring 41 points, compared to the Lady Barons' 19. Although Franciscan started the game with an easy bucket, the rest of the quarter did not go as easy. The Lady Barons tied up the game several times throughout the first quarter, but Mount Aloysius pulled ahead with a six-point lead.
The Lady Barons fell behind in defense in the second quarter. Mount Aloysius took advantage and dominated offensively, scoring 25 points. The Mounties stretched their lead to twenty-two points by the end of the first half.
Franciscan outscored Mount Aloysius in the third quarter 23-19, attempting to comeback from their large deficit. Breakaway layups from
Abby Baierl and
Tessa Crider contributed to the Lady Barons' offensive surge. A deep three-pointer from Reagan Stead also gave Franciscan momentum. The Lady Barons came within 10 points before Mount Aloysius regained control of the game and pulled ahead.
Mount Aloysius shut down Franciscan, only allowing five points m in the fourth quarter. The Mounties extinguished any hope of a comeback for the Lady Barons. Mount Aloysius stretched their lead to 32 points to end the game with a score of 79-47.
Senior Reagan Stead led the Lady Barons in points with 11. Freshman
Angela Starre contributed with 11 boards. Franciscan shot 27.9% from the floor and made 7-13 of their free throws.
The Lady Barons are on the road for their next AMCC matchup against Penn State Behrend, who Franciscan beat earlier in their season. The game will be played on Saturday February 2, at 2 PM.
