Leon and Baierl Record Double Doubles as Lady Barons Lose

Box Score STEUBENVILLE, OH - Leon and Baierl record double doubles but the Hawks prove to be too much for the Lady Barons tonight.

How it Happened
  • Hilbert, similarly to the men's game earlier, would jump out to an early lead on Franciscan. A 16-3 run by the Hawks would put the Lady Barons in a bug hole to start.Senior Taylor Corts would score the first eight Hilbert points with a pair of threes and a layup. Selena Coronis would break the run by hitting a free throw. The Hawks would stretch the lead to 19 as Grace Zabawa converted a jumper with 40 seconds left. Abby Baierl would add two points to send the Barons to the second quarter 25-8.
  • Clare McGahan would open up the quarter by hitting a three, but Zabawa responded with a three of her own for the Hawks. With 6:30 left in the quarter Hilbert held a 33-17 lead after another Zabawa trey. Estelle Leon would begin heating up as she hit a pair of buckets that sparked a Lady Baron 10-0 run, that was completed with a pair of Rose Judge free throws. The Hawks would climb the lead back up to nine, before Kelsey Scott-Avery hit her first three of the game to send Franciscan to the half down by six.
  • The third would be the lowest scoring quarter of the night, but Leon would remain the driving force for the Lady Barons. Leon would go on a personal 7-0 run ending at 3:54 left by making a jumper to tie this one up at 37-37. Macy Kisner would make the first bucket for the Hawks of this quarter with 2:50 to play to re-gain the lead. Emily Gawlak would add a pair of buckets and Kisner another, and before you knew it the Hawks were back up eight. Baierl made a late jumper to send the Barons to the 4th down six.
  • Baierl hit another jumper to cut into the lead, and Scott-Avery added her second three to be down by four with 7:53 left to play. Leon added another tough layup, cutting it to a one possession game with 6:43 left.The Hawks would go on another run as they would climb the lead back to eight, before Cianna Vaughan would convert a jumper, to make it 55-49 with 3:38 to play. The Hawks would be able to put this one away as they would go 8 of 10 from the free throw line to end this one.

  • Estelle Leon led the way for the Lady Barons with 19 points on 8-11 shooting, she also added 13 rebounds to give her back to back double doubles.
  • Abby Baierl also recorded a double double, her second of the season as well, with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Kelsey Scott-Avery played in a ll 40 minutes, as she had 8 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Selena Coronis also played in all 40 minutes.
  • The Hawks shot it well from deep, going 40% for the game, including a 5-7 1st quarter performance.
