STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan softball team dropped its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader of the season to Mount Aloysius, Wednesday afternoon. The Mounties won the first game 10-6 and took the nightcap, 13-0.
The first game was a back and forth affair for the Lady Barons and Mounties. Freshman
Rachel Cooper got the scoring going in the bottom of the first with an RBI single through the left side to bring home sophomore
Allyson Weiss and give Franciscan a 1-0 lead.
The Mounties answer with a run in the top of the second and took a 3-1 lead with a two more in the top of the fourth. Freshman
Chloe Cross cut the lead down to one with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth and freshman
Mary Roach tied the game with an RBI single to bring home senior

Brittany Olsen-Graham gave the Lady Barons their last lead of the game with a two-run groundout in the fourth.
The Mounties posted a five-run fifth inning to re-take the lead 8-5 and added a pair of runs in the sixth to lead 10-5. Down to their last out in the bottom of the seventh, junior
Dennise Carrazco singled through the left side with two runners on to bring home Weiss and cut the lead to 10-6. The Mounties were able to get out of any more trouble and held on for the 10-6 win in the first game.
Mount Aloysius took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and the Mountie pitcher, Karlie Clark, was able to keep the Lady Barons off balance as she allowed just two hits, one to Cross and Olsen-Graham, while striking out six.
The Mounties took a 7-0 lead after five innings and plated six in the top of the seventh inning to seal the 13-0 win.
Franciscan will return to action on Saturday when the Lady Barons host D'Youville in an AMCC doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
