WHEELING, WV – The Franciscan men's tennis team won its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match of the spring season with a 8-1 victory over Mt. Aloysius, Friday evening.
The Barons took a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles play and proceeded to sweep singles play for dominant AMCC win.

Walter Matt picked up a quick 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles before juniors
Luke Conrad and
Jack Galla followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen
Gary Pierre and
Billy Presume dropped a very competitive No. 1 doubles match as Mount Aloysius needed a tie-break to pick up its only win of the match.
Both Matt and Howard had solid singles matches, each dropping one game each. Matt won at No. 5 6-0, 6-1 and Howard took the No. 6 singles match 6-1, 6-0.
Galla earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles while Presume posted the same set scores in a win at No. 3 singles. Conrad took the No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-2. Pierre wrapped up the singles matches sweep with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 win at the top spot.
The Barons improved to 4-9 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.
Franciscan hits the courts next Thursday, April 4, when the Barons travel to Pitt.-Greensburg for a 12:00 pm AMCC match.
