HAMBURG, NY – The Franciscan bats came alive in a doubleheader sweep of Hilbert as the Lady Barons combined for 34 between the two games, the most a Franciscan team has scored in a doubleheader in program history. Franciscan rallied to take the first game 20-8 before finishing off the sweet with a 14-3 win in the night cap.
 
The 20 runs in game one is the most runs scored by a Lady Baron team in a single game in program history. Between the two games, Franciscan combined for 27 hits, 34 runs, and seven extra base hits. Sophomore Allyson Weiss led the offensive charge with five hits between the two games while driving in five runs. Freshman Rachel Cooper scored six of the Lady Barons' runs.
 
In the first game, the Lady Barons found themselves down 6-0 after the third inning and still searching for their first hit. Cooper led off the fourth with a walk before freshman Anna Swierczewski got the first hit of the day for Franciscan with a single to left. Freshman Jenny Massey followed with a double to center to score Cooper. Freshman Brittany Olsen-Graham came in to pinch hit for the Lady Barons and brought home Swierczewski to get the Lady Barons to within four, 6-2. After Mary Roach reached on a fielder's choice that scored Massey, Weiss singled to center with two outs to cut the lead in half, 6-3, after four innings.
 
The Lady Barons then used a nine-run fifth inning in four hits and two Hawk errors to take a 12-8 lead. After a quiet sixth for both team, Franciscan plated eight more runs in the top of the seventh to break open the game, 20-8. Weiss highlighted the scoring with a three-run home run with junior Dennise Carrazco and Roach on base and two outs. Freshman Chloe Cross singled home Swierczewski for the final run of the game.
 
Senior Amanda Pulice started in the circle for Franciscan while sophomore Andi Queen came out in relief to pick up the win in 4.2 innings of work.
 
The Lady Baron bats didn't cool down in the second game as Franciscan plated six runs in the top of the first inning to take the early 6-0 lead. Massey got the scoring going as she reached on an error and junior Kathleen Thompson scored. Carrazco capped the inning with a two-run double to left as Olsen-Graham and Roach both scored.
 
The Hawks got on back in the bottom of the first but Franciscan plated two more runs in the third and one in the fourth to push their lead to 9-1. Hilbert cut it back down in the fourth as the Hawk got two back to trim the deficit to 9-3.
 
Cooper extended the lead back to nine as she homered to center to bring home Thompson and Weiss before Cross hit the second home run of the inning to score Massey and give the Lady Barons a 14-3 lead.
 
After giving up a leadoff walk in the fifth, freshman starter Sarah Keating got three-straight outs to seal the win and doubleheader sweep.
 
The Lady Barons were scheduled to take on Medaille on Sunday in an AMCC doubleheader, but weather has forced a postponement. A make up date will be announced soon. Franciscan will return to the diamond next Monday as the Lady Barons host Bethany on April 22 for a 3:00 pm doubleheader and senior day celebrations.
