ORCHARD PARK, NY – The Franciscan men's tennis team won its 52
nd-straight AMCC regular season match after defeating Medaille, 7-2, Sunday morning.
With the win, the Barons improved to 5-0 in AMCC action and remain the only undefeated team in conference.
Franciscan went 2-1 in doubles matches to take the match lead as they headed into singles play. Juniors
Jack Galla and
Luke Conrad continue to work well with each and feed off each other's strengths as the pair won 8-2 at No. 2. Junior
Walter Matt and sophomore Aiden Howard picked up the 8-3 win at No 3 doubles.
Conrad and Galla each rolled in their singles matches as they won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Freshman
Billy Presume won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4. Freshman
Gary Pierre and sophomore
Christian Cappello both needed a highly competitive tie break to seal the 7-2 win for the Barons.
Pierre dropped his first set, 7-6, before coming back for the 6-4 win in the second set. Pierre took the match with an 11-9 win in the tie break. Cappello also dropped his first set 7-6 but won 6-2 in the season. Cappello won the match with a 10-5 win at the tie break.
Franciscan will take a break from conference action when they travel to Baldwin Wallace on Friday for a 5:00 pm match.
