FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Franciscan women's tennis team fell to #15 Mary Washington in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament, Friday afternoon.
The Eagles got three points to open the match as they swept doubles action. Senior
Maria Binette and junior
Madelyn Conrad battled at No. 1 but fell 8-1 while seniors
Taranee Karimpour and
Julia Razook dropped the No. 3 match 8-2. Sophomore Ana Maria Haddad and junior
Grace Hammel dropped the No. 2 double match, 8-0.
Mary Washington got first set points in all singles matches before taking a 4-0 lead after Claire Coleman won at No. 2, 6-1, 5-0 over Binette. Rachel Cooper won the fifth and deciding point at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Karimpour.
Franciscan wraps up its season with a 16-6 overall record, the highest single-season win total for a women's tennis team at Franciscan. The Lady Barons won their third-straight AMCC tournament crown in October to earn the bid to the NCAA Tournament.
