How It Happened
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Franciscan University got their spring break trip started on a positive note, defeating Clarks Summit University 12-0 in five innings on Monday March 9th.
Franciscan would get on the board in the first inning. Allyson Weiss led off the inning with a single into left field. After she stole second and third bases, Faith Pokryfke flew out to left field, allowing Weiss to score.
In the circle, starter Elizabeth Thompson quickly settled into the game. After allowing a double to the Clarks Summit Stephanie Fry in the first inning, Thompson would not allow another Defender to reach base recording six strikeouts in five innings of action.
The Lady Barons offense would explode in the bottom of the second inning, taking control of the game. Jenny Massey led off the inning with a single and immediately stole second base. Rachel Cooper walked and then Massey and Cooper pulled off a double steal, putting two runners in scoring position. Anna Fluharty hit a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Massy to score. After Cooper stole third base, Chole Cross reached on an error by the right fielder, allowing Cooper to score. Cross stole second and then Dennise Carrazco hit a hard ground ball to the right side allowing Cross to score.
Weiss kept the offense rolling smashing a triple off the fence in left field. Kathleen Thompson folowed with a single into left field to score Weiss. Pokryfke doubled to left center and later scored off a Defenders error. This gave the Lady Barons a 7-0 leading heading to the third inning.
Franciscan kept the offense rolling in the third inning, with Cooper drawing a walk and stealing second to lead off the inning. Fluharty doubled to left field allowing Cooper to score. Carrazco followed with a single to plate Fluharty. Weiss ripped a single into left field, allowing Carrazco to score and put Franciscan ahead 10-0. Mary Roach came through with a pinch hit single to plate Weiss and Anna Swierczewski closed the scoring for Lady Barons, ripping a double to left field.
With a 12-0 lead, Elizabeth Thompson cruised in the circle, striking out two of the last three batters in route to the mercy rule victory.

How It Happened
The Lady Barons reset after their game one victory and defeated Penn College 3-1 in Monday's nightcap.
Franciscan once again struck in the first inning, starting with a single to left field by Kathleen Thompson. Thompson would steal second base and after advance to third on a ground ball from Faith Pokryfke. Anna Swierczewski smashed a single into right field, allowing the Lady Barons to take a 1-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Sarah Keating got off to a strong start allowing only one base runner in the first three innings while striking out three Wildcats. Keating got a boost from her defense as right fielder Thompson made a great catch, running down a fly ball from deep right field.
The Lady Barons would strike again in the top of the fourth inning. After Pokryfke worked a lead-off walk, Swierczewski would smash a double into center field, allowing Pokryfke to score. The Lady Baron would get two runners in scoring position but could not extend the lead.
After Keating worked Franciscan out of a jam in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Barons looked to add on to the lead in the fifth inning. Dennise Carrazco led off the inning by crushing a triple into the right center gap. Thompson launched a sacrifice fly into left field, allowing Carrazco to score putting Franciscan ahead 3-0.
The Lady Barons remained in control allowing only one run the rest of the way, fending off a seventh inning rally by the Wildcats. Keating struck out six Wildcats on her way to the complete game victory.

- Anna Swierczewski led the Lady Barons offense, going 2-3 with a double and two RBI's
- Dennise Carrazco crushed a triple into right center field, eventually scoring
- Franciscan out hit the Wildcats 7-5
- Rachel Cooper went 2-3 with a pair of singles
- Kathleen Thompson went 1-2 scoring a run and recording an RBI
- Penn College's Kyla Benner recorded the team's lone run, with a solo home run in the seventh inning

- Starter Sarah Keating picked up her third win of the season, pitching seven innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out six Wildcats

- Franciscan added two more stolen bases, bringing their season total to 26

Who's Next?
It will be a quick turnaround for the Lady Barons as they will face Immaculata University at 9:30 a.m. and Lancaster Bible College at 11:30 a.m. on Monday March 10 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
