Ashland 6, Franciscan 1
Ashland, Ohio - The Franciscan Women's Tennis tennis traveled north to Ashland to take on the Eagles. The Lady Barons had their nine game winning streak snapped by losing to the Division II team 6-1.
Doubles
  With Division II scoring in place, the winner of the majority of the doubles matches would earn one point.
Haley Davinsizer and
Zoey Stapleton only got one point on the board, as they fell 6-1. The #1 pairing had the same luck, as
Maria Herrera and
Olivia Colby lost their match. The Eagles completed the sweep of doubles play by winning #3 doubles over
Caroline Picard and
Alessandra Barker.Â
Singles
  First off the court was the #3 singles match, as
Zoey Stapleton fell 6-4,6-1. Then in #1 singles,
Maria Herrera won her first st 6-3. She then lost the second set 6-1, but she would dig deep and win the third set 10-6. With Franciscan trailing 2-1, it looked like they may tie it up with a win at #2 singles. Freshman
Olivia Colby battled hard, but lost back to back sets by the narrowest of margins 7-6, 7-6.
Caroline Picard and
Haley Davinsizer would each fall in #4 and #5 singles. Then the last match off the court was #6 singles.
Makena Wisniewski was unable to pull out a win, as she lost in straight sets.
Who's Next?Â
The Lady Barons conclude PAC play on Wednesday night at home against Westminster. This will be a match to determine who earns the #1 seed in the PAC Tournament that starts on October 18th. The Titans are undefeated on the season thus far including a non-conference win against Division II California (Pa.). The Titans have had success against the Lady Barons as they have won 10 of the previous 11 matchups, including last season. In the 2020-21 season, Westminster came to Steubenville and won 8-1.
Zoey Stapleton was the lone Franciscan player to win a match, as she won in #3 singles.  Franciscan's lone win against Westminster came in 2018 in their last trip to New Wilmington.Â
