How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan would fall to Carlow on Saturday afternoon in Finnegan Fieldhouse. Felicia MacGillivray led the Lady Barons with 18 points. She connected on five three pointers, and Madison Doan recorded another double double.
Action started slow in the first quarter, as both team were scoreless for the first two and a half minutes. Ilena Gonzales opened up the scoring with two made free throws. Felicia MacGillivray would add her first three pointer with 4:23 to play in the quarter to give Franciscan their largest lead of the quarter at 10-3. A 7-0 Carlow run would tie over the next three minutes would tie it up at 10-10. Carlow would take the slight edge at 16-15, as we headed to the second quarter.Â
Franciscan quickly took the lead in the second quarter, as MacGillivray connected on a three pointer. There would be more where that came from, as she would connect on a total of four three pointers in this quarter alone. MacGillivray would score 13 of Franciscan's 17 points in the second, as she helped the Lady Barons jump out to an eight point lead at 26-18 with seven minutes to play in the half. Carlow would respond, as they out-scored Franciscan 14-6 over the rest of the quarter, to tie it up at 32-32 at the half.Â
The third quarter would belong to Madison Doan. She would score 11 points this quarter while helping Franciscan build their largest lead of the game with a 47-34 lead with 2:50 to play in the quarter. The Celtics did a good job of fighting back into the game, as they ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to pull within six at 48-42.Â
Carlow kept up the offense, as they would score the first eight points of the fourth quarter to take the lead at 50-48 with 7:39 to play. Doan would tie it back up at 50-50 with a pair of made free throws. MacGillivray would answer with a clutch jumper to give Franciscan a 52-50 lead with 6:20 to play. The Celtics would answer with a 13-0 run to end this game, as they were able to shutdown the Franciscan offense over the final six plus minutes.

- MacGillivray made five three pointers, T3rd most in a game in program history.
- Madison Doan recorded her third double double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
- Doan led the Lady Barons with a +9, +/-, but fouled out late in the fourth.
- Lauren Arena had a team high three steals.
- Carlow had 33 points off Franciscan turnovers.
Up NextÂ
Franciscan will get back after it on the road at Denison next Tuesday for their final game of the 2021 calendar year. This will be their first ever game against Denison in women's basketball history. Denison is 4-6 thus far this season, but off to a strong start, 3-1, in North Coast athletic Conference (NCAC) games. Two of their losses in non-conference play came against #3 ranked Trine and #8 John Carroll. This will be a big test for the Lady Barons before they head home for winter break.Â
