How It Happened
PAC Top ranked Washington & Jefferson came out shooting hot early to take a strong control of the game that they would go on to win 78-52.
The Presidents jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Lady Barons responded with a bucket by Angela Starre and a huge three pointer by Sophie LaRose. Clare McGahan also added a triple later in the quarter, but the Presidents pulled ahead to the score of 31-16 at the end of the quarter.
Natalie Conner opened up the second quarter by making a three pointer, and the the Lady Barons would battle hard in the second quarter. Freshman Isabel Atendido would make a pair of three pointers as well on back to back possessions as the Lady Barons would shoot 5-9 from deep in the first half.
Selena Coronis came out on a mission in the third as she would score nine of the 11 Franciscan points in this quarter. She consistently got into the paint and drew contact, as she would draw six fouls and take multiple trips to the line where she capitalized.
The Lady Barons would not quit, as they would tie the Presidents in 4th quarter points at 14-14. Angela Starre would score six of those points to battle her way into double figure scoring with a team high 13 points on the night. The Presidents would prevail 78-52.
Inside the Numbers
-Angela Starre scored a team high 13 points, while Selena Coronis added 12 points in the loss.
-The Lady Barons won the turnover battle 14-17.
-Alie Seto led all scorers with 19 points
-Maria Lawhorne recorded a double double for the Presidents with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
-The Lady Barons shot 73.9% from the free throw line and 38.5% from deep, both best marks in a game this season.
-Freshman center Paige Kendall recorded her first block of her career.
Who's Next?
Franciscan will head to Pittsburgh on Monday night, as they face Chatham. The Lady Barons are in search of their first win against the Cougars in school history, as they are 0-11 all-time. Chatham is 1-3 on the year after earning their first win on Saturday by a score of 84-67 over Geneva.
