How It Happened
The Franciscan Women's Basketball team got off to a strong start, but could not hold off a second half push by Thiel, falling by a score of 61-52.
The Barons got off to a fast start with Selena Coronis finishing a pair of layup and Clare McGahan hit a 3-pointer to take an early 7-2 lead. After a layup by Angela Starre, McGahan connected on her second 3-pointer of the night, putting Franciscan ahead by seven. Victoria Unnerstall would close the quarter by hitting a jumper to go ahead 14-5 heading to the second quarter.
Natalie Conner opened scoring in the second quarter, before the Tomcats went on a 6-0 run to close within five points. Unnerstall would end the run and start to heat up finishing a layup in the paint. After hitting a pair of free throws, Unnerstall would knock down a jump shot in transition. She followed that up with back-to-back 3-pointers extending the Barons lead. Unnerstall added two more free throws having scored 14 consecutive points for the Barons putting them ahead by 16 points. Ashley Benson would close the half with a layup sending the Barons in the half with a 31-16 lead.
The Tomcats would answer back in the third quarter, opening the quarter on a 16-3 run to close back with three points. Sophie LaRose ended the run with a layup and Unnerstall added a pair of free throws to increase the lead to six. Thiel would continue to fight back tying the game at 42 entering the fourth quarter. After the Tomcats took a five point lead to start the final quarter, Isabel Atendido knocked down a 3-pointer to keep the Barons with two points. Thiel would take control right back building a nine-point advantage and cruising to the 61-52 victory.

- The Barons were led in scoring by Victoria Unnerstall who scored a career-high 19 points
- Angela Stare pulled in a team high 13 rebounds
- Clare McGahan was 2-2 from beyond the arc, scoring six points
- Thiel was led in scoring by Rachel Breckenridge who scored 18 points
- The Tomcats won the rebounding battle 53-43
Who's Next?
Franciscan remain on the road, as they travel to Saint Vincent for a Wednesday night tip. The Beracats and Lady Barons are squaring off in women's basketball for the first time in program history. Saint Vincent is 4-0 on the season, as they are one of three remaining unbeatens in PAC women's basketball. The other two unbeatens, Washington and Jefferson and Grove City, are meeting on Wednesday night also.
