Womens's Golf Opens Season at Home

| By:
Steubenville, Ohio - The Franciscan Women's Golf team opened their 2020-21 season with a home match against Geneva College on Tuesday. It was a beautiful day for golf at Steubenville Country Club with a high touching in the low 70s with a steady 10-15 mph wind.

How it Happened
The Lady Barons were led by their #1 golfer, Gia Hooper, who carded a 98. Hooper set a new program for the young Franciscan team with the sub-100 round. Hooper did not have her best day on the greens, as the wind would dry them out throughout the day to make them even faster then normal. Following Hooper was fellow freshman Madeline Holecek, who carded a 101 in her first collegiate match.

Returner Hailey Jansen would record a 120 in her season debut. First year player Emily Lamontagne would score a 160 in her first 18 hole round. Medalist on the day was Hannah Therrell from Geneva who carded a 92, in her college debut for the Guam native.

Up Next
Franciscan will have over a week off, as their next match is at Geneva on April 9th. The Lady Barons have competed at Connoquenessing Country Club once in their brief history with Hailey Jansen holding the Franciscan low round there with a 101. Jansen and company look to improve on this trip up north as they will play the Golden Tornadoes in a match play format next week.
