Washington, Pa. - The Franciscan University Women's Tennis team defeated Grove City in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Semi-Finals by a score of 5-4, earning a berth in the PAC Championship game. Â
Doubles
The Lady Barons got off to a strong start in doubles play with the team ofÂ
Maria Herrera and
Ana Victoria Haddad winning the #1 Doubles match by a score of 8-6. After dropping the #2 Doubles match, the team ofÂ
Caroline Picard and
Alyce Davis (FRA) battled back from an early deficit to win the #3 Doubles match by a score of 8-7, taking the tiebreaker 7-3.Â
Singles
Franciscan would continue its momentum from the doubles matchups, with a win in the #1 Singles match where the Lady Barons Ace
Maria Herrera won by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
Ana Victoria Haddad would earn the Lady Barons second singles victory, winning the #2 Singles match by a score of 6-3, 7-5. Grove City would rally back, winning the #3, #5 and #6 singles matches to tie the match at four. In the #4 Singles match,
Caroline Picard dropped the opening set 4-6 before rebounding and winning the second set 6-4. In the third and deciding set the score was tied at four when Picard won the final points capturing the 6-4 win and sending the Lady Barons to the PAC Championship. Â
Who's Next?Â
The Lady Barons move onto to PAC Championship game where they will face the tournament hosts and #4 seed Washington & Jefferson. The Presidents' earned their berth in the Championship Match, when #1 Seed Westminster had to withdraw from the tournament due to COVID-19. Early this season the Lady Barons traveled to Washington & Jefferson, defeating the Presidents in a thrilling fashion, winning 5-4.
