Men's Tennis Advances to PAC Semifinals

Franciscan 6, Washington & Jefferson 3

Steubenville, Ohio - The Franciscan University Men's Tennis would win in their first ever PAC Tournament game over Washington and Jefferson on Tuesday afternoon. 

Doubles
The Franciscan doubles team swept all three doubles matches to get off to an early 3-0 lead. Joe Mulligan and Luke Conrad were the first off the court with an 8-2 win. Gary Pierre and Billy Presume would win by the same score at #1 doubles. The #3 doubles match would be more back and forth, but Franciscan would prevail. Joseph Suess and Aidan Howard combined for a 8-5 win.

Singles
First off the court was Christian Cappello in #5 singles, as he won in straight sets, 6-1 6-1. Billy Presume would win the clinching fifth point, as he won by the same score as Cappello in his #2 singles match. Franciscan would keep up the success at #6 singles, as Aidan Palladino would win in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. 

Washington & Jefferson would register their first point of the day in #4 singles, as Aidan Howard fell in a third set tiebreaker after winning the first set. The Presidents also won in #2 singles, as Luke Conrad would fall 6-3, 6-4. Last off the court was Gary Pierre at #1 singles. Franciscan would fall by a score of 6-3, 6-5. That would be enough for Franciscan to take the win and the trip to the PAC semifinals. 

Who's Next? 
With the win the Barons move onto the semifinals in Washington, Pa. where they will face the Saint Vincent Bearcats. Franciscan lost to #2 Saint Vincent earlier this season in Latrobe by a score of 5-4. In the close match, Franciscan would go 1-2 in doubles play. Then in singles play Christian Cappello would win #5 singles in a tiebreaker, but Luke Conrad fell in #2 singles in a tiebreaker. The Barons will have to play their best tennis to take down the Bearcats on Friday at 4 pm.
