Pitt.-Greensburg 5, Franciscan 4
Greensburg, Pa. - The Franciscan University Women's Tennis team began their 2021-22 season at old AMCC foe Pitt.-Greensburg. The Bobcats would come out victorious in a closely contested match by a score of 5-4.
Doubles
The Lady Barons got off to a strong start in doubles play with the team of
Caroline Picard and
Laina Anderson winning 8-3 in the #2 match.
Susan Schuberg and
Alessandra Barker would secure Franciscan's second point in #3 doubles. They won by a score of 8-6.
Olivia Colby and
Haley Davinsizer would fall in #1 doubles, by a score of 8-6. That would give Franciscan a 2-1 edge as they headed into singles play.
Singles
Susan Schuberg would secure her second win of the day, as she won her #5 match, 6-1 6-2.
Laina Anderson would fair the same, as she would secure her second win in her collegiate debut. She won in straight sets, 6-3 6-2, in the #4 spot. With a 4-1 edge, the Lady Barons would then lose the #3 singles match, as
Haley Davinsizer fell in straight set, 6-4, 6-1. Fellow teammate
Caroline Picard would also fall at the # 2 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.Â
Freshman
Olivia Colby got off to a slow start in the #1 spot, as she fell in set one 6-2. She responded in the second set with a commanding 6-1 win, but unfortunately she fell 10-4 in the tiebreaker.
Makena Wisniewski made her collegiate debut at the #6 spot, and she got off to a strong start with a 6-1 win in the first set. She then fell 6-4 in the second, and would lose the tiebreaker 12-10 in an epic battle.Â
Who's Next?Â
The Lady Barons will host Division II West Liberty University on Friday and Saturday for the Baron Challenge. It will be a flighted round robin individuals tournament with action starting at 5 pm Friday and resuming at 11 am Saturday. The Lady Barons have not faced the Hilltoppers since the fall of 2016.Â
