Lady Barons Battle Titans on the Road

How It Happened 
    The Lady Barons made the trip New Wilmington six days later than expected, as the game originally scheduled for January 4th was played tonight. The Lady Baros would be led by Madison Doan, who recorded her fifth double double of the season. 

The first quarter presented back and forth action, as Madison Doan scored the first four points of the night for Franciscan to set the score at 4-4. After a 4-0 Westminster run, Sophie LaRose and Ilena Gonzales would add their first buckets to keep this one close. After a Felicia MacGillivray jumper, the Lady Barons would pull within one at 12-11. Then the Titans would go on an 11-0 run that would last the next six minutes going into the second quarter. Doan snapped the run with another field goal and a pair of free throws made. Lauren Arena would joining the scoring colum right before the half to send us to halftime trailing 32-17.

The Titans offense would light it up in the third quarter, as the Lady Barons struggled to get their offense started in this quarter. The Lady Barons responded in the fourth quarter with their best ten minutes of play on both ends of the the floor. They held the Titans to just six points while scoring 14 points of their own. Franciscan held a 12-0 run over a six minute period of the final frame. Jazzlyn Melnyk and Felicia MacGillivry each cashed in a three pointer to keep the run going. The defense stepped up huge, by holding the Titans to 13.3% shooting in the quarter, but the Titans would hold on to win 55-35.

Inside the Numbers 
- Doan led Franciscan in scoring with 10 points and rebounding with 11 on the night.
- The Lady Barons shot 62.5% from the free throw line, their best single game performance of the season. 
- Madison Doan had three blocks, the most she has recorded in a game all season.
- Franciscan held Westminster to 55 points, the fewest points an opponent has scored all season on the Lady Barons. 
- Camden Hergenrother led all scorers with 17 points on the night for the Titans.

Up Next
Franciscan continues their busy week of games on the road this week, as they travel to Geneva on Wednesday. The Lady Barons are 2-6 all-time against the Golden Tornadoes, as they are searching for their first conference win against them still. Franciscan came out on top two seasons ago in a non-conference matchup by a a score of 74-67. Abby Baierl went off for 28 points, and Angela Starre added 17 off the bench in the strong offensive day for the Lady Barons. Just a general reminder this game will be played with NO FANS ALLOWED INTO THE GAME.
