How It Happened
The Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving team hosted the reigning PAC Champions, Grove City, on Saturday afternoon. It was Senior Day for the Barons, as it was their last home meet of the 2022-23 season. Olivia Mete was recognized before the meet for all that she has done for the program in two season with the Barons, as she and her teammates look to keep improving this season. The Barons won three events and had several seconds in the dual meet against the Wolverines
Kristen Farabaugh, Anne Konstanty, Olivia Mete, and Bridget Bartosik teamed up to swim the 200 yard medley relay, the first event of the meet. They placed second with a time of 2:07.39. Freshman Kate Kinst then secured the first win of the day for the Barons, as she won the 1000 yard freestyle. Rachel Comstock then had her best finish of the day so far with a second place in the 100 backstroke. Olivia Mete got the second win of the day for Franciscan with her family in the stands in the 100 breaststroke. Her teammate Anne Konstany was less than three seconds behind her in second place.
Bridget Bartosik had her best individual finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.75. After the first intermission, Kate Kinst placed second in the 100 freestyle, and Rachel Pergi placed third. Comstock then had similar success in the longer backstroke event, as she placed second in the 200 backstroke. Kristen Farabaugh got the last win of the day for the Barons, as she won the 200 yard breaststroke. The Barons then earned seven points in the 500 yard freestyle with a second place finish by Anne Konstanty and a third place finish by Julia Lesley. Mete showed her versatility in the 100 yard butterfly with a second place finish in her last individual event of the day. After the last break, Bridget Bartosik placed second in the 200 yard IM, and the top relay team placed second in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Up Next
Franciscan will remain in conference play, as they travel to Bethany next Friday for a dual meet. Franciscan has had the upper hand historically against Bethany as they have won 12 of their previous fifteen matchups, including wins in the last nine matchups. The Bison are also in search of their first conference win, as they dropped a close one to Washington & Jefferson earlier this season. Hopefully the Barons can pick up some momentum to end the final month of their fall season off strong.
